Affiliate marketing is the collective, symbiotic relationship between millions of regular people just like you and me.  Traditional advertising is run by a country club of the largest ad agencies and media sources around the world.  Now that more and more Internet site owners are learning that they can monetize their distribution in spite of being ignored by the media buyers… and entrepreneurs are learning that they don’t need to throw huge sums of money into a black hole in the hopes that new customers will sprout.  It’s the fastest growing segment because the sheer number of businesses and distribution channels has dwarfed traditional methods.

Why does affiliate marketing continue to experience growth when conventional advertising takes a downturn?

Simple.  It is performance based marketing and when advertising budgets get slashed, buyers turn to the safe plays where they only have to pay for ads when a sale is made.  There is no unknown factor in cost per sale variance across several campaigns… you always know exactly what your marketing costs are and you only have to pay them after they are directly responsible for a sale.  Makes sense, right?
